Swedish saxophonist Mats Gustafsson is a long-time friend and oft-featured artist at FIMAV, and regular attendees will surely debate which of his numerous appearances has been the best and most memorable. Fire!, formed in 2009 and led by Mats and Johan Berthling, synthesises signature free-jazz expressionism with, among other elements, rock groove and psychedelia. These interests are manifested grandly in Fire! Orchestra CBA (Community Based Activities) projects, and this edition will feature 14 outstanding Québecois and Canadian musicians, from coast to coast, who will have assembled and rehearsed in Victoriaville in advance of this world-premiere collaboration.
