This Californian quintet has recently re-emerged following a dozen-year hiatus, releasing Of the Last Human Being and reviving its reputation for unclassifiable rock-based musical experimentation and hybridisation. With its cast of rotating vocalists who double on a range of conventional, unconventional, and invented instruments, SGM blends the intensity of metal, the thought-provocation and form-extension of prog rock, classical filigree, and a flair for the dramatic and the obliquely theatrical.
