A collaboration :

This installation comprises video, kinetic elements, and sound to explore the transformation of materials and investing them with new meaning. Mechanical devices move in irregular ways, interacting with images and materials in ways that evoke snow. Suspended ceiling panels become sensitive material that generate poetic echoes. Through friction or the act of falling, these structures reside in precarious balance, and their changes produce subtle sounds reminiscent of a collapse or a fading memory.

About the Artist

Using simple mechanical processes, PASCALE LEBLANC LAVIGNE creates kinetic and sound works from modest, often salvaged or industrial materials. The strength of these raw materials and the very structure of her creations are put to the test through imprecise and repetitive movements, revealing their fragility, flexibility and poetry. Unlike an industrial machine, the components of his creations are linked together in a totally artisanal, even casual way. In this way, his works are unstable, sometimes ephemeral, and their movements potentially unpredictable.

She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in visual and media arts from Université Laval. Her work has been presented at a number of international exhibitions and contemporary arts festivals, as well as solo and group exhibitions in Quebec. She has taken part in creative residencies in a number of artist-run centres, and her work has earned her several grants, awards and distinctions. She currently teaches visual arts in colleges and continues her artistic explorations.
