KAVAIN WAYNE SPACE is better known as the legendary pioneer of Chicago footwork (or juke) DJing, RP BOO, having come to prominence around 2000 as the musical genre and its corresponding dance style evolved out of house music. Still a regular on the global DJ circuit, he connected with the intrepid British electro-acoustic improvising duo, XT –– SEYMOUR WRIGHT, alto saxophone (actual and potential), and PAUL ABBOTT, drums (real and imaginary) –– in 2018. The trio explores its shared love of groove, repetition, 60s and 70s Chicago soul, disco, and R&B in entirely improvised performances –– four to date, and always adjacent to RP BOO DJ sets –– that forge connections through these and other traditions of Chicago experimentation, from Baby Dodds to the AACM. The first recording by KAVAIN WAYNE SPACE / XT TRIO, YESYESPEAKERSYES was released in February 2024 on Feedback Moves Records.
