« Le Double » is the brainchild of French-born and Joliette-based bassist and composer, STÉPHANE DIAMANTAKIOU, comprising eight stellar musicians from locales including Quebec, Montreal, and Chicoutimi. The group formed in the latter city, the outcome of a residency with the musicians’ collective, CEM. « Le Double » features episodes of electronic ambient noise that segue into thickening grooves and dynamic soloing that nod to histories of dub, post-rock, and 1970s-era Miles Davis electric jazz, a process of deftly controlled intensification, unfolding, and release. DIAMANTAKIOU’s conception is a fully synthetic electroacoustic group sound that he gracefully sculpts along with his superb fellow musicians: GENEVIÈVE GAUTHIER, SÉBASTIEN SAUVAGEAU, SÉBASTIEN DELORME, SCOTT BEVINS, DAVID SIMARD, ROBERT PELLETIER and DAVÎ SIMARD.
