Nicole Rampersaud : trompettes
Composer and virtuoso trumpeter NICOLE RAMPERSAUD is a vital presence in Canadian creative music. Following studies in the States, she quickly established herself in Toronto’s field of improvised music with key collaborators like Marilyn Lerner (Brass Knuckle Sandwich), and Allison Cameron and Germaine Liu (c_RL). Her richly conceived solo practice goes back to 2008 — including key residencies at Scott Thomson’s underground venue, Somewhere There — but has taken on special focus since her move to rural New Brunswick in recent years. Saudade (Ansible Editions) is the spectacular result of this focus, a suite of compositions for trumpet, piccolo trumpet, and electronics, and one of the best Canadian records of 2023. Those pieces will be the basis of her FIMAV performance, which will translate the glitch-inflections of her electroacoustic practice into the all-acoustic music to be performed in the Église St-Christophe d’Arthabaska.
